Chocolate

Chocolate is my favorite food. It was interesting to learn how it's made and the history of chocolate. I'm not sure that I was able to do the sound correctly on this video.

How to look up recommended daily food intake

For my screencast I showed people how to look up recommended daily food intake. I used the website mypyramid.gov which is a good website set up by the govenment and it has a lot of information about health on it.
I thought this project was really neat. At first I was a little scared to start the project because I didn't know how to do it. Once it was explained to me I realized how easy it really is
I will definitely use this for fun in the future. It is so easy and I'll probable go home and show my boyfriend how to do it tonight. It is a great way to share information with people and it only takes a matter of minutes.

Are you getting your five a day

Most people do not get their recommended five fruits or vegetables a day. I created this form to see how many fruits and vegetables people were eating and which fruits and vegetables were their favorites
By doing this survey I learned that most people prefered broccoli, but almost everyone prefered a different type of fruit. Answers ranged from peaches, grapes, strawberries and apples. Also most people were only getting 2 servings of fruits or vegetables per day.
I actually really liked this assignment because it was really neat to know how to be able to create a site like this where you can pole people about a specific topic. I think I will use this in the future whether it's in the classroom or just for fun.

A Second Life

In A Second Life there is a good point broughten up that there is a lot that people can learn through this type of technology however, before people can learn they need to know how to use the program. This video talked about what is the best way to educate these people so that it is still fun. They tried many different types of hand outs but these didn't work because people just didn't look at them. They just kind of threw them to the side. So they have decided to teach people using a virtual walkway. On the walkway their are arrow keys and instructions. There are walls around the walk way so that people cannot stray away from the orientation, they must complete the tasks. I thought it was pretty interesting how in depth they had to go, just to get people to start using the program. This didn't even include the whole making of Second Life, just the orientation.

Sam I Am

Sam is a very smart and intellegent 15 year old girl. She has learned to use technology to enhance her creative and artistic abilities. One thing that scared me was that she said she would spend two hours on the computer on a school night, and 12 hours on a weekend. As a physical educator I enjoy running, and being outside. I know that not everyone can enjoy this like I do but I still think it is unhealthy to be sitting down, at a computer for this amount of time. All health beliefs aside, I think that she has found something that appeals to her interests. I especially thought it was cool how she could use technology to help her improve on the piano.

Collaboration through wiki's

In Paula's video she brings up many good points about using wiki's in the class room setting. She notes that wiki's can be used to help students learn to collaborate and reach a higher level of engagement. Another thing that she addressed that I appreciated was that you can't just assign students assignments on wiki's and expect them to be excited about it. She said that students learn best when they want to learn and will be more engaged in the activity when it is about something that they truely care about. I thought this was neat because you could tell that she really cares about her students and their hobbies and interests. The video was very informative about getting students engaged which I think is something that is very important for our next generation of students

123people

I visited the website 123people talked about by joyce in her video. It was a good sight, easy to use, and I learned about my digital footprint. The sight was easy to navigate. All you have to do on this sight is type in a name and city and you get the information that you need.
